You can make a reduced stress tea using 4 parts nettle, 3 parts oat straw, 3 parts chamomile, 1 part St. John's Wort, 1 part skullcap and 1 part passion flower.     Certain people should consult a physician before embarking on a heat therapy or sauna detoxification program. Definition of short-sightedness

    Short-sightedness is a relatively common condition in which you can clearly see objects that are close to you, while objects in the distance are blurry. In the most severe cases, patients have trouble focusing on any object that is more than a few inches away. The condition may worsen over time, starting in childhood or adolescence, and often is genetic. Avoid straining your eyes while doing the exercises. Be sure to rest your eyes at the end of each exercise. Early in the morning is the best time to do the exercises because our eyes tend to be tired after a day at work. However, you can split up the exercises -- doing some in the morning and some in the evening, for example -- to best fit your daily schedule.

How to Treat Sinus Congestion by Draining or Flushing

Sinus congestion, otherwise known as sinusitis, can be a daily nuisance; if infection has settled in, that nuisance may become a more serious issue. The practice of washing the nasal cavities---nasal irrigation or nasal lavage---has been around for centuries but is gaining in popularity as an effective way to drain the sinuses of congestion and flush out offending irritants, such as pollen, pet dander or allergens. According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and author of multiple health books, washing the sinuses with warm saline solution improves a variety of nasal problems. A neti pot, a small vessel with a spout that easily introduces warm salt water to the nasal cavities, simplifies the process of nasal irrigation.

Instructions

Method

    1

    Heat 8 oz. of distilled water to a comfortably warm, but not hot, temperature. Pour the heated water into the neti pot.

    Add the baking soda and salt to the water; stir well, until dissolved.

    Test the water to ensure a comfortable temperature; water that is too hot is unsafe and water that is too cold is uncomfortable.

    Lean forward over a sink. Begin inhaling through the mouth and continue to do so throughout the rest of the process.

    Place the tip of the neti pot in the left nostril, creating a seal so that water does not leak out. Be careful not to push the tip in too far, as doing so will seal the tip against the inner nose.

    Rotate the head, as if aiming the left ear to the ceiling. The water should start flowing through the sinuses and exit out the right nostril, into the sink. Keep breathing through the mouth until all the water is gone.

    Close the right nostril and gently blow the left nostril several times; then close the left nostril and gently blow the right nostril several times.

    Repeat the entire process for the other nostril; a total of 16 oz. should be used (8 oz. for each nostril).

Radioactive Iodine (RAI) therapy has a variety of uses for thyroid patients. Although it has been used successfully for many years, RAI is difficult to tolerate for many people.     First, consider some dietary changes. Your thyroid needs iodine to function properly, so make sure your diet is iodine rich. In most countries, iodine is added to salt specifically for thyroid health, but do more than season your meals with salt. Red meat, eggs, yogurt, oatmeal, seafood, bananas and even parsley are all good dietary sources of iodine, so get plenty of them.

    Coconut oil has been used successfully by many underactive-thyroid patients. Although it is not clear why coconut oil helps, Dr. Ray Peat speculates in an article entitled "Unsaturated Vegetable Oils Toxic," published in his newsletter, that replacing animal fats with coconut oil frees up enzymes that would be used digesting animal fat to help with thyroid hormone production.

    Natural thyroid hormone supplements, found in health food stores, are another option. Dietary changes, coconut oil and natural thyroid hormone supplements can all be used together to boost results.

    A word of warning about natural remedies: not all patients have success with these treatments. After RAI, your thyroid may be severely underactive, and natural therapies may not be enough. Be sure to keep your doctor involved in the process as you recover so she can monitor your blood work. If the natural remedies are not working, you will need to start taking a synthetic thyroid hormone replacement pill such as Synthroid.

Policosanol Side Effects

Policosanol, also called Octacosanol, is an herbal remedy that is used to treat high cholesterol and Parkinson's disease. It may also decrease the chances of developing heart disease. This natural remedy can carry minor side effects in some people.

Dosage

    General guidelines for policosanol use are a daily dosage of between 10 and 20 mg. You may have an increased tendency toward side effects if you exceed this recommended dosage.

Headache

Thermage does not involve surgery or injections. Its side effects include red or peeling skin. It is considered a treatment for spot reduction and not recommended for large amounts of fat deposits. The average cost of a Thermage treatment is $2,000--ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.00 depending on the treated area.

Ultrasound Liposonix

    Ultrasound liposonix, and another technique called Ultra Shape, use ultrasound purportedly to break up and melt the fat layers beneath the skin and let the body dispose of them naturally. No chemicals or lasers are used. It is currently in FDA trials and is available in limited areas. This treatment is rather expensive, at around $3,000 to $5,000.

Lipoburn Gel

    Lipoburn gel can be used at home, it uses some of the same penetrating fat-melting ingredients other providers use in injections and creams (like yohimbe HCL to block fat production and forskolin that burns fat at an accelerated rate). It is not a water-shedding cream like most lipo cremes but penetrates the skin to melt away fat. A Canadian procedure called Lipolysis uses some of the same ingredients and costs $1,450 to $2,500.00 for the treatment followed by 10 weeks of cream at about $320. Lipoburn gel is the least invasive treatment and costs very little: $25 to $37 per 8-ounce bottle.

If you're struggling with a stuffy, congested nose, you might be looking for an alternative to many over-the-counter decongestants. Options such as do-it-yourself nasal sprays, herbs and homeopathic remedies may provide you with relief. Alternative remedies
