How to Naturally Cure a Migraine

How to cure a migraine naturally is something migraine suffers want to know as most of the prescribed medicines do very little to help.

Take feverfew capsules, an all-natural herb you can buy at any health food store or larger department stores. Although not specially designed for migraines it is one of the few natural herbs which help according to many migraine victims. Chase the feverfew capsules with a can of soda with caffeine.

Grab an ice pack from your freezer, or even a bag of frozen veggies and hold it on your forehead. Holding this over the eyes and eyebrow area will help clear your vision when you are suffering from a migraine.

Heat up a rice bag in your microwave. A rice bag was designed to ease the muscles in the back of your neck. It relaxes the muscles therefore improving blood flow during a migraine. If you do not have a rice bag, then take a hot shower.

Get a neck massage. Have someone rub the back of your neck. He will feel the knots which are tense muscles. This is where he should apply pressure to the point of a bit of little discomfort. This will ease the migraine.

Head to bed in a dark quiet room. This will remove any of the lingering effects of the migraine and the associated side effects.

How to Treat Dysmenorrhea through Diet

A simple way to treat Dysmenorrhea is through diet. Below are the more effective changes that you should make to your diet if you currently suffer from Dysmenorrhea. These treatments work best when used a few days before, and during your menstruation.

Add more Calcium to your diet. Calcium helps to prevent menstrual cramps, which in many women with Dysmenorrhea are worsened due to a lack of adequate amounts of Calcium. Take 1,000 mg of Calcium daily throughout the month, and then during menstruation take 250 mg to 500 mg every 4-5 hours to help relieve pain and discomfort.

Women with Dysmenorrhea should avoid drinking any alcohol. Alcohol depletes stores of some nutrients and also affects the metabolism of carbs. This can worsen muscle spasms and also lead to heavier menstrual flow, increased fluid retention and elevate the estrogen levels.

Lower your fat intake. High fat diets can worsen Dysmenorrhea. Try to switch from full fat products to low fat products. Even small changes like switching from whole milk to skim milk can make a difference.

Cherry Juice Cures

Cherry Juice Cures

Current research seems to support the claims for tart cherry juice cures. Research suggests that this small fruit, packed with antioxidants, may help with pain and inflammation. It also may aid in preventing heart disease and certain cancers.

Anthocyanins is the antioxidant flavonoid found in dark red and purple fruits and vegetables. Tart cherry juice contains high amounts of anthocyanins, which is the key ingredient believed to fight against inflammatory ailments, heart attack/stroke, colon cancer and fibromyalgia.

According to the National Institutes of Health, a study conducted at Johns Hopkins Hospital by Jill M. Tall, Ph.D., concluded that anthocyanins had strong anti-inflammatory properties. Cherry juice, a source of anthocyanins, shows credible use for the treatment of gout and arthritis.

Tart cherry juice can increase melatonin levels for those that suffer from fibromyalgia. Increased melatonin levels can improve sleep--part of the treatment plan for people with fibromyalgia. Cherry juice also may help relieve pain. Anthocyanins have been found to have the same effect as ibuprofen for pain relief.

Heart Disease/Stroke

According to research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, cherry juice contains cyclooxegenase (COX) inhibitors, which block the cyclooxegenase enzyme responsible for atherosclerosis.

Colon Cancer

According to research conducted at Michigan State University, anthocyanins and cyanidin found in tart cherry juice may reduce the risk of colon cancer. Cyanidin is a compound that may inhibit tumor growth.

The FDA warns of companies distributing tart cherry juice as a cure, treatment or prevention of a disease. Research is still being conducted about the benefits of tart cherry juice. Exercise caution when using any alternative treatment plan.

Alternative Therapies of Cellulitis

Cellulitis, an inflammation of the skin caused by bacterial infection, can affect the tissue beneath the skin and, in severe cases, spread to the lymph nodes. Cracks or breaks in the skin allow bacteria to enter the body and grow, causing infection and inflammation. Cellulitis can lead to serious complications; without treatment, it can even be life-threatening. Although the condition is generally cured with antibiotics, you may choose to use alternative therapies in tandem with conventional care.

In cases of cellulitis, the skin tissue becomes red, hot, irritated and painful, with the affected area increasing in size as the infection spreads. Most often located on the lower legs, this condition may also affect the arms, face or scalp. The skin may have a tight shiny appearance, and skin lesions or a rash may be present.

Conventional Medical Treatment

Drugs prescribed for this condition include antibiotics for the infection as well as pain relievers if needed. Because cellulitis can spread rapidly, it is essential to get conventional medical treatment. Never treat cellulitis with alternative therapies alone. Inform your doctor if you are taking any herbs or supplements along with the conventional medical treatment to prevent any possibility of negative interactions.

Nutritional Supplements

Vitamins C and E, along with zinc, can strengthen the body's immune system and help promote the skin's healing. Consider taking bromelain, a plant-derived protease enzyme, between meals to reduce inflammation. It is most effective when used with in conjunction with turmeric, another anti-inflammatory agent. Certain flavonoids found in citrus fruits, blueberries, grapes, onions, tea and red wine may also help reduce your risk of cellulitis.

Herbal Remedies

Garlic and thyme are believed to have antibacterial properties that may help stem cellulitis. Herbalists recommend eating garlic when the infectious symptoms first appear and applying thyme in a compress directly to the area to help reduce scarring. Goldenseal and yarrow are natural antibiotics that can be applied topically to reduce inflammation. Echinacea can be taken orally to strengthen your immune system or applied topically for treatment of inflammation.

Acupuncture may be able to help address the underlying cause of cellulitis and enhance your immune system. Your acupuncturist should be vigilant when piercing the infected skin because of the risk of further contamination. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that no scientific studies have investigated the use of acupuncture specifically for cellulitis.

How to Make Your Own Colloidal Silver Maker

Colloidal silver is a powerful antibacterial and immune-enhancing supplement. It can be used for everything from preventing infections in a cut to relieving cold symptoms. But purchasing pre-made colloidal silver can become very expensive over time, and can be difficult to find in stores. If you could create your own colloid, you would be able to have a fresh supply any time you needed it. Fortunately, a colloidal silver generator is easy to build.

Solder the battery connectors together in series, and attach the insulated wire. Connect the bulb to the series, to serve as an indication of battery power remaining.

Solder the red alligator clip to the positive and the black clip to the negative wire. Use the heat gun to shrink insulation over the soldered connections.

Cut the pure silver wire in half and attach the alligator clips to the end of each. Snap the batteries into their connectors to provide power.

To use the generator, submerge one end of each silver wire in a glass of distilled water.

How to Make A Rice Sock

Labor is generally a time when most moms find heat as a natural comfort source. Between the intensity and duration of the contractions, heat usually soothes those muscles that are tense. One of the best ways to obtain heat is from making a rice sock. Rice socks are easy to make and keep heat 20 to 30 minutes. They can be used anywhere a laboring mom feels she needs it.

Place the funnel in the top of the sock. Pull the top of the sock over the stem of the funnel and wrap your hand around it creating a seal.

Take the cup and dip it in the rice. Pour it carefully into the funnel and gently move the stem of the funnel so the rice will drain. Repeat this step until the sock is 3/4 of the way full.

Once the sock is full, remove the funnel. Tie the top of the sock in a knot. You have now made a rice sock.

You can either put it in the microwave and heat it for two to three minutes or you can freeze it.

Skin Conditions

From itchy skin to acne and eczema, drinking and/or bathing in apple cider vinegar has been found to help cure skin conditions. The vinegar can also be applied to the skin directly (if it doesn't cause irritation) to help clear up acne or dryness.

Mix 2 teaspoons of honey and vinegar in water and take it before meals, three times a day. If you directly apply the vinegar to the skin, dilute it in water first, about 1 teaspoon to 1/2 cup water.

Alternative Treatments for Strep B

Streptococcus (strep) B, also known as Group B Streptococcus, is a bacterium that commonly exists in the lower genital tract and/intestines. Pregnant women are strongly encouraged to treat strep B so that it is not transmitted to their babies. According to you should be screened for the bacteria between the 35th and 37th weeks of your pregnancy. While antibiotics are the most often the prescribed treatment, there are alternatives.

Echinacea is a type of coneflower that is native to North America. It is widely used in the herbal medicine field for both its wound healing and infection preventing properties. According to, taking echinacea can help boost the immune system and fight off the bacteria responsible for causing strep B. However, according to, it is unlikely that taking echinacea prior to pregnancy will eliminate bacteria colonization and help eliminate the chance of a child inheriting the disease.

Vitamin C

Taking vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is another alternative treatment for strep B.

According to, increasing your vitamin C intake with supplements and/or dieting can help heal injured tissue, which includes amniotic sacs. For pregnant women, the amniotic sac is the barrier between strep B-causing bacteria and the baby, and strengthening it can help prevent the disease from being transmitted. However, according to the above source, if mothers take too much vitamin C during pregnancy, their babies run the risk of being born with scurvy, a disease that is usually caused by a vitamin C deficiency which can cause swollen gums and excessive bleeding.

According to, grapefruit seed extract is believed to be a natural cure for the colonization of strep B-causing bacteria, and is often prescribed by midwives and other birthing practitioners. One of its main benefits is that it is completely side-effect free. However, according to, research done in 1999 showed that grapefruit seed extract has no anti-bacterial or anti-microbial properties.

Colloidal Silver

Another alternative treatment for strep B is taking colloidal silver, a solution comprised of a silver-based compound and water. According to, some claim taking colloidal silver orally serves as a powerful antibiotic that is effective against hundreds of diseases (including strep B). However, these claims have failed to be proven through medical research and experimentation.

Lactobacillus is a rod-shaped, naturally occurring "good" bacterium that is responsible for breaking down carbohydrates and producing lactic acid. According to, lactobacillus produced in the vagina can coat the walls of vaginal cells and has been shown to prevent and sometimes displace strep B-causing bacteria. The diet also stresses antioxidant rich foods such as strawberries and green tea. Foods rich in essential fatty acids such as fish oil are also included in the healing diet for cellulitis.

Physical Activity

Exercise is an alternative treatment for cellulitis that will relieve stress and bring the body back into balance. Find an exercise that you enjoy and remember to not overdo it and risk injury. Sweating during exercise is thought to be a way to remove toxins from the body.

Seek Medical Help

Traditional medicine treats cellulitis with antibiotics. There is a time to visit the doctor when alternative treatments are not curing the skin infection. If you have a fever with the rash, seek emergency attention.

When you notice that the rash is spreading or changing rapidly, seek medical help for the condition. Alternative medicines are controversial and may not work for your condition. MRSA infections can cause a life-threatening situation if they are not treated properly and quickly.

What Does Solaray Cool Cayenne Do?

Stomach Ulcers

Once you consume Solaray Cool Cayenne Pepper, your stomach will recognize the capsaicin, the main element in cayenne pepper, and the cells of the stomach will begin to react by secreting a thick mucous to cover the walls of the stomach and intestines. Although this mucous is meant to protect the stomach from the harshness of the pepper, it also helps with stomach ulcers. As the mucous covers the stomach walls it also coats ulcers, providing instant relief. If the mucous remains in place long enough, the stomach ulcers will begin to heal.

Consuming Solaray Cool Cayenne Pepper also helps with the body's digestive function, since cayenne triggers the body to produce hydrochloric acid. This acid is necessary for proper food digestion. Once digestion efficiency is established, the body produces less gas and the stomach will feel less bloated. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that three Italian doctors were able to reduce symptoms of indigestion in patients by giving them daily doses of red pepper or cayenne pepper.

Capsaicin also opens the blood vessels, which improves circulation and increases the body's temperature. These heating factors can stimulate circulation, particularly increasing blood flow to the hands and feet. This property of Solaray Cool Cayenne Pepper is especially helpful among people with rheumatoid arthritis, as it brings warmth to the skin and increases the blood flow of nutrients. When applied topically in a warm compress, Solaray Cool Cayenne Pepper can relieve arthritis pains. Once applied to the skin, the cayenne pepper causes a minor irritation to that specific area; that irritation distracts the nerves from the joint pain due to arthritis.

Heart Problems

Cayenne pepper is also commonly used for its ability to increase the activity of the heart and cardiovascular system. Not only does the cayenne stimulate blood flow, it also dissolves any fibrin in the blood, eliminating the risk of fatal blood clots. The late Dr. John Christopher, a naturalist, used hot cayenne pepper tea with heart attack patients to prevent subsequent attacks because he believed that hot cayenne tea opens up all the cells, bringing the cayenne directly to the heart along with nutrients from throughout the body, which then allows the heart to regain its normal function.

Several of the uses include giving hair a beautiful shine, lightening or highlighting hair, removing grease from plates and dishes, removing tarnish from metallic products, healing a sore throat and bad cough, disinfecting a kitchen counter, using it as a mouthwash, freshening the air, removing certain odors, and preserving fruit. Effects on Acne

Due to its disinfectant properties, lemon juice does indeed help to clear up acne. When applied topically on the skin, the acid in lemon juice breaks down the main acne-causing bacteria, p. acnes. The citric acid, known as L-absorbic acid, also cleanses clogged pores and makes them appear smaller. Other benefits include reducing overall redness, lightening skin tone and giving the face a soft glow. Not surprisingly, L-absorbic acid is found in many acne-treating products. Unlike acne products sold in stores, lemon juice is relatively inexpensive and affordable. The acne clearing effects should be visible within a few days of use. It is also used to treat disinfect minor wounds, scratches and tears in the skin.

Cons and Side-effects

Some of the cons of using lemon juice include a slight stinging sensation that may be rather uncomfortable in the first few days. Some people with sensitive skin may experience redness and irritation in the skin. If this occurs, it is recommended that treatment be stopped for a few days. Natural Home Care for Foot Problems

According to the Mayo Clinic, your feet have 25 percent of your body's bones, along with numerous tendons, joints, muscles and ligaments. They also takes the brunt of abuse in walking, running and shoe-wear. It's no wonder that your feet can be afflicted with a variety of problems. Many of these can be treated with natural home remedies.

Diagnose Your Problems

The Mayo Clinic states that women are more susceptible to foot problems than men. High heels, age and improperly fitted shoes are the top causes of blisters, bunions, corns and calluses. Long-term use of high heals can also lead to permanent tendon damage in the foot.

Blisters are very common with new shoes or develop after days where you spend an extreme amount of time on your feet. Friction creates blisters, which may have a fluid-filled bump in the afflicted area. A bunion is a big toe that leans toward the second toe resulting from misalignment of the joint. Corns and calluses are very similar where the skin becomes thick and hardened -- often in an area where blisters have healed or there is constant friction. Ingrown toenails can develop when toenails are not clipped straight. The edges of the toenail becomes red and tender with swelling as the toenail grows inward. Hammertoe is a condition where the toe is curled under like a claw.

You may have heel pain if you tear the plantar fascia along the bottom of the foot. Achilles tendinitis is a chronic condition in which the tendon connecting the foot to the calf through via the ankle becomes worn.

Home Remedies

One of the first things you can to to reduce pain from these common foot problems is to take a good look at the shoes you wear, especially those you wear most often. Shoes that are too tight are more likely to aggravate corns, bunion pain and increase blister formation. You want to make sure that shoes fit properly and have level soles. Soles that are worn down should be replaced to make sure your gait is not thrown off-balance. For women who are on their feet all day, it is best to keep heel height as low as possible to reduce the stress on your feet.

You can often help reduce pain from these conditions with a warm Epsom salts bath, soaking your feet for 20 minutes. A foot massage can help to ease the pain of fascitis and tendinitis. Stretching your feet by pointing your toes back to you and down to the ground help release tension in the many muscles and tendons in your feet. Putting your feet up will reduce any swelling from these conditions and improve circulation in your feet, bringing nutrients in to help heal conditions. Clip toenails straight across to prevent ingrown toenails.

When to See Your Doctor

If you have a blister or ingrown toenail is infected with yellow pus, have a doctor look at it. Ingrown toenails can be removed by your doctor. Should foot problems persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Excessive swelling and pain may be an indication of a more serious problem than you initially perceived. Your doctor can develop a proper course of action after an examination to help you get back on your feet as soon as possible.

Cinnamon and cassia are two separate plants. Ceylon cinnamon is derived from the Cinnamomum zeylanicum plant, while cassia is derived from Cinnamomum cassia. Both are used in herbal medicines.

The bark and flowers of the cassia cinnamon plant are used to treat conditions such as appetite loss, colds and stomach upset. Cassia contains a chemical called cinnamaldehyde that may have antibacterial and antifungal properties, according to WebMD. Cinnamon bark, which is derived from Ceylon cinnamon, also helps with stomach upsets and works as an appetite stimulant. It is used to treat infections caused by parasitic worms and helps lessen menstrual cramps.

Coumarins are plant components with anticoagulant properties, according to website The World's Healthiest Foods. The amount of coumarins in cassia can cause health risks if it is used for long periods. Cinnamon bark oil is irritating to the skin and mucous membranes. Both cinnamon and cassia can cause hypoglycemic attacks in people with diabetes or low blood sugar.

Old Folk Remedy for Egg Whites

Egg whites aren't just for cooking; they are an old folk remedy. People have been using food and herbs to heal themselves since the beginning of time. Scientists have investigated these old folk remedies and have found that many of these foods and herbs have healing properties. These properties are then isolated, patented by prescription drug companies and used in prescription drugs to help people. For example, opiates come from the healing properties of poppies, a common wild flower. For emergencies it is always best to seek medical care if possible.

Using egg whites to treat burns is an old folk remedy. According to a University of Nebraska publication dated 1935, you can rub egg whites on a burn and it will help heal the burn without leaving a scar. Additionally, says that you can apply it as if it were a salve or if possible, soak the burned area using a bowl of egg whites.

Dysentery is another ailment that uses egg whites as an old folk remedy. According to the same University of Nebraska publication, you apply egg whites externally to the abdominal area when you have dysentery. It also suggests that babies with dysentery can be helped by feeding them egg whites, but don't do this without checking with your doctor.

Egg whites are an old folk remedy for vomiting, according to "Remedies and Lost Secrets of St. Bernard's Islenos," published by the Los Islenos Heritage and Cultural Society. The book says when nothing else will stop vomiting, mix one egg white in half a glass of water. Mix and consume.

Fever Reduction

Both the Americans and the Chinese have been using egg whites as an old folk remedy for fever reduction. The American version of this old folk remedy uses raw egg whites, while the Chinese version uses hardboiled egg whites. When the patient has a high fever, apply raw egg whites to the soles of the feet. When it dries it must be reapplied. For the Chinese version of this remedy, make a hardboiled egg and remove the yolk. Place the egg white and shell in a handkerchief. Twist the loose ends and create a ball. Use this ball to massage the patient from head to toe. Both of these remedies are supposed to bring the fever down quickly.

Milk Treatments for Tapeworm

Milk Treatments for Tapeworm

According to, some people never even know they have tapeworms. These intestinal parasites often cause no symptoms and eventually leave the human body on their own. If this isn't the case for you and you seek medical assistance to kill and expel a tapeworm, you will likely be prescribed medication, reports However, you may prefer first to try a home remedy to rid yourself of the intestinal invader, which can cause abdominal pain and lead to malnutrition. If you're in search of an alternative method, a milk treatment may do the trick.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk contains worm-killing agents, according to the Mamaherb website. Prepare it by grating the meat of half of a coconut and then extracting the milk from it. The home cooking rocks! website explains that you can extract the milk by placing grated coconut in a blender or by squeezing handfuls of the grated coconut until the milk runs into the bowl. You should drink this milk twice daily for up to a month or until the tapeworm exits the body. Mamaherb says it takes between 15 and 30 days for the coconut milk treatment to kill and rid a patient of a tapeworm.

Milk Bath

A milk bath is another alternative to prescription medication for tapeworm removal. The Natural-HomeRemedies website instructs those with tapeworms to fill their bathtubs with milk and soak their bodies in it. The site claims that tapeworms are attracted to the smell of the milk and will exit the body--through the anus--to reach the milk. The Grandma's Wisdom website recommends allowing 3 to 4 gallons of whole milk to warm to room temperature for the milk bath. The site says to warm up the bathtub first by filling it with hot water and then draining it before pouring in the milk--and up to 1 quart of hot water if you absolutely must warm it up before getting in. Grandma's Wisdom explains that you must sit with your knees bent and keep your rectum under the milk, usually for at least an hour. The site suggests distractions that will keep you relaxed, including reading and listening to music.

Milk Vapor Inhalation

Another way milk can reportedly attract tapeworms out of the body is via the nasal cavity. The Welsh Health Systems Newsletter website says to heat up a bowl of milk and inhale the vapors that rise up from the milk so that the tapeworm will smell the milk and exit the body from the nose.

Spa Heat Treatments

Spa Heat Treatments

Heat treatments at spas serve to rid the body of the toxin buildup that is part of modern life. Heat treatments also help relieve soreness and can rejuvenate muscles. Getting a heat treatment requires caution. People with respiratory or circulatory system problems should check with their doctors before going. Heat treatments are not recommended for women who are pregnant. For others, though, spa heat treatments can be a wonderful way to relax and get healthier.

Hot Stone Massage

Putting hot stones along certain lines, or meridians, in your body is a way to work on muscle soreness. Hot stone massages are popular along the sides of the spinal column because those muscles tend to get tense from sitting for long stretches. With a hot stone massage, the massage therapist will place the stones along the muscles and leave them there to cool or move them gently back and forth.

A venting system forces hot, dry heat into a sauna. Drinking water is important while you are in a sauna because the dry heat will dehydrate the body faster than humid air. Most people should stay in saunas no longer than 15 minutes to avoid serious dehydration or elevating the body's temperature too much. Expect excessive sweating in a sauna.

Steam Rooms

Spending time in a steam room is similar to being in a large, steamy shower. The air is hot, as with a sauna, but it also is wet, or humid. The air in a steam room can be thick, making it inadvisable for people with respiratory problems. Steam rooms also will make you sweat, which is how they help the body get rid of toxins, but you are less likely to notice as the air is damp. Steam rooms also can make you dehydrated, so drink water before going in and leave if you feel faint.

Heated Oils

Hot oils worked into your skin can be part of a soothing massage. Standard heated oil will help to revive tired muscles and feels great. Herb-infused oils can have medicinal properties as well. These oils may have herbs that settle digestive problems or assist in stress relief. Having someone massage these oils into problem areas provides a dose of good medicine to specific parts of your body.

What Are the Benefits of Jujube Tea?

What Are the Benefits of Jujube Tea?

Jujube tea is made from the sweet, olive-shaped fruit of the jujube tree--a small, deciduous shrub native to southern Asia. Though quite tasty, the tea is most prized for its reputed medicinal qualities, ranging from sore throat treatment to alleviating stress, depending on whom you ask. Like many "ancient remedies," scientific evidence for some of these claims is limited. However, the specific vitamin and mineral content of the jujube fruit does lend itself to some plausible health correlations.

Cold and Flu Relief

High in vitamins A, C, protein, and potassium, all known to support the immune system, it makes sense that jujube is used to treat colds. Herbalists prescribe the tea, often combined with other herbs, such as ginger, licorice, and mint, as a lozenge to coat the throat and sooth a cough, as well as help ease achy muscles and speed the recovery of these illnesses.

Detoxifying Cleanse

According to the "Indian Materia Medica," by Dr. K.M. Nadkarni, Jujube tea has mild laxative qualities that make it a valuable detoxifier. Adherents use it to help strengthen and prevent further damage to the liver, kidneys and other cleansing organs. Traditional Chinese medicine also advocates using the tea to remove obstructions in the energy flow, or qi, and create emotional balance.

Natural Sedative

The most common use for jujube tea is for anxiety and stress. Jujubes contain saponins, which, according to a study published in Natural Product Research, have a soothing effect on the nervous system and create sedative and even hypnotic effects in humans. Drink this tea whenever you're feeling restless, emotional or irritable to help create a sense of well being, or have some before bed to promote a more restful sleep.

Supplemental Cancer Treatment

In addition to soothing nerves, saponins may also have an anti-carcinogenic effect. As shown in an article published in "The Journal of Nutrition," saponins seem to react with the membranes of cancer cells to help cause cell death. Further studies are still needed to determine ideal dosages and it is unclear if the amount of saponins found in jujube tea is substantial enough for effectiveness.

Energy Booster

Perhaps in part because of its reputed ability to clean out the body's obstructions, in addition to its high vitamin and anti-oxidant content, jujube tea is acclaimed by herbalists for it's ability to increase the drinker's energy and stamina, as well as help build stronger muscles. Ready-made energy drinks containing jujube are available for purchase, though the tea is just as easy to make.

Healthy Sweetener

Jujube's sweet, fruity flavor is often used in herbal tinctures to cover up the bitter taste of other plants. In fact, tea drinkers often savor the tincture just because it's a guilt-free sweet treat, no sugar added.

Naturopathic Treatment for ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common behavioral disorder in children but can also affect adults. It is a developmental disorder that causes inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, certain natural treatments have shown benefit in studies, which include homeopathy, biofeedback, certain nutritional supplements and massage, while herbal treatments and certain diets might be of help. Consult with an experienced healthcare provider to design an effective natural treatment regimen and to determine appropriate dosages of suggested supplements.

The Feingold diet, developed in the 1970s, was based on the premise that artificial colors, flavors, preservatives and salicylates (chemicals found in many fruits and vegetables) significantly contributed to hyperactive behavior and learning disabilities and should be eliminated from the diet of those affected. Most studies have shown no benefit, but there is evidence that salicylates can contribute to hyperactive behavior in a minority of children.

Other dietary theories advocate a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates; eliminating sugar and artificial sweeteners is also encouraged. While the link between sugar and ADHD is a popular theory, studies do not show any relation.

One nutritional strategy that shows promise is the elimination diet to determine any food allergies. Possible allergens are eliminated one at a time from the diet to see if the condition improves in their absence. Allergic sensitivity can influence behavior.

Nutritional Supplements

Magnesium deficiency shares many symptoms with ADHD, including confusion and shortened attention span. Vitamin B6 is necessary for the production of brain chemicals that are negatively impacted in ADHD, which include serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Zinc is necessary to control the actions of brain chemicals, fatty acids and melatonin, all of which influence behavior. Essential fatty acids, like those found in fish, flaxseed and evening primrose oil contribute to normal brain activity. L-carnitine regulates energy production in the body, and its supplementation might help improve behavior.

Herbal Treatments

Herbal treatments used traditionally to induce calm might be of benefit; they include Roman chamomile, valerian, lemon balm and passionflower. Ginkgo biloba and American ginseng might improve aspects of mental function like memory and concentration.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center website, massage has been shown to decrease anxiety and activity levels in children and teens. Studies demonstrate a marked improvement in behavior and concentration in children who received this therapy.

Biofeedback is a mind-body technique that has shown benefit for managing ADHD. It allows children to train themselves to reduce brain activity linked to ADHD and increase brain activity that improves concentration. The idea behind biofeedback is that by training yourself to become aware of problems as they are manifesting, you can use the power of your mind to reverse negative processes and produce actual physical changes in the body.

Homeopathy is a highly individualized system of medicine that prescribes remedies based on several factors in addition to the main condition. According to the University of Maryland, the following homeopathic remedies were most effective in studies.

Stamonium works best in children who are especially fearful at night. Cina is for children who demonstrate irritability, physical and aggressive behavior and dislike being touched. Hyoscyamus niger is most effective for children who cannot control their impulses, talk a lot and get overly excited.

Home Remedy for Blocked Eustachian Tubes

Blocked eustachian tubes can make your ears ache because of built-up pressure. Tubes often become blocked during colds or when you're suffering from allergies. Adult tubes have a downward slant toward the opening in the throat, making it easier for them to drain and stay clear. Children's tubes tend to be flat, making them more prone to blockage. While blocked eustachian tubes aren't dangerous and will usually self-correct in time, they can be painful.

Flex your throat muscles to help open blocked eustachian tubes. If you're aware of these muscles, flexing them is easy and results in a little popping noise inside your ears. If you aren't certain how to flex these muscles, try yawning, chewing gum or swallowing.

Garlic can help clear your ears and relieve pain. Buy ready-made garlic oil drops or make your own. Administer two or three drops directly into your ear canal three times a day.

To make your own garlic drops, boil three or four cloves of garlic in water until they become soft. Drain, mash the cloves of garlic and cover them in oil. Allow the oil to sit overnight, then strain it.

Eucalyptus oil can help prevent ear infections. It also helps to open the nasal passages and eustachian tubes. In a steamy hot shower, close the drain and add 10 to 15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to the shower floor. The vapors will rise. When you breathe them in, it will help relieve your symptoms.

You also can add 10 to 15 drops of eucalyptus oil to your bath.

Preventing Infection

When fluid becomes trapped in the middle ear in the presence of bacteria, the ear may become infected. An infected ear is very painful and may trigger a fever.
Use white vinegar to stave off infection. Place two or three drops of white, distilled vinegar into the plugged ear. Allow it to remain in the ear canal for three minutes. Then tilt the head so the vinegar can drain out.

Gargle with warm salt water or diluted vinegar to help reduce the bacteria within your throat that may lead to infection.

Garlic drops also help to fight infection.

If you believe you're suffering from an ear infection and your symptoms do not clear up within three days, schedule a visit with your doctor. You may need a course of antibiotics to eliminate the infection.

Early Symptoms of Candida

Candida albicans is the overgrowth of flora in the gastrointestinal system. Early symptoms include fatigue, mental fogginess, malaise and a vaginal discharge in women. However, men can also have candida.
Everyone has friendly flora that grows in the digestive tract and if the person has a healthy immune system, the candida bacteria is kept in check. If not, candida overwhelms the friendly bacteria to create discomfort.
Prevention includes removing all foods with yeast or mold and all forms of sugar, including fruit. Grapefruit seed extract and consuming live cultured yogurt can prevent and alleviate candida.

Candida albicans is a well-known bacteria that grows in moist areas of the body. It is normally kept in check by friendly bacteria in the gut.
If someone is ill and run down, his immune system may be compromised and he may have an overgrowth of candida bacteria.
Candida can also be transmitted to another person through sexual contact. To eliminate it, the candida must be managed and eliminated before intimate contact can resume or there is a "ping pong" effect where the infection is transmitted back and forth between two people.

Feelings of unexplained fatigue, mental fogginess are early symptoms of candida. People with candida complain of exhaustion even though they have not done any extreme physical exertion.
Later, symptoms may develop into yeast infections in women which is seen as vaginal discharge. Men can have yeast infections but may show no external signs of it.

If you eat a lot of food made from molds, yeast or with a high sugar intake, you may be more prone to candida infections.
Yeasted breads is very common and pizza is in the same category. Cheese is made with mold and sugar intake includes fruits, fruit juice as well as maple syrup, corn syrup, molasses and honey. Stevia is not in this category.
These foods tend to worsen a case of candida as the yeast, mold and sugars "feed" the candida bacteria and allow it to foster. Eliminating these foods until the candida has been eliminated is one way to stop the infection.

The greatest misconception is that only women get candida albican infections as they are often defined as yeast infections.
Men can get candida from sexual contact with women who have it, but they can also develop it on their own.
Sources are a compromised immune system that does not keep the candida bacteria from growing and consuming foods that feed the infection, such as yeasted foods, foods made from mold and sugars of all types.

If you get yeast infections or exhibit the other symptoms of candida, examine your diet, work and home environments.
Remove yeasted foods, foods made from molds and all sugars from your diet. This includes mushrooms, leftover foods (that have micro molds growing on them) and also fruit sugars.
Eliminate actual mold from bathrooms, the basement and the garage to not expose yourself to it. If you are too sick to clean these areas, have someone else do it.
Consume probiotics which are live cultures such as acidophilus lactobacillus as supplements or yogurts with these live cultures. Read labels to identify these cultures.

How to Use Lavender to Treat Rheumatism

How to Use Lavender to Treat Rheumatism

Rheumatism is an umbrella of medical issues that can affect the skin, lungs, heart, bones and joints. We commonly use the term rheumatism when we mean rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic type of joint pain. Rheumatism encompasses much more, including other forms of arthritis, tendonitis and fibromyalgia. Though conventional medications can be used to treat these symptoms, lavender and other herbal remedies may help as well.

Lavender Massage Oil

Pour 1 oz. of a carrier oil into a small bowl. A carrier oil, such as peanut, almond or orange, helps get the essential oils to the body without causing skin irritation.

Add 1 ml of lavender essential oil to the carrier oil. You can put some cedarwood oil in the mixture as well. Stir well to combine all the oils.

Dip a large cotton ball into the essential oil mixture. Gently squeeze out the excess oil so you will not drip on yourself.

Rub a generous dab of massage oil on the area that is bothering you.

Apply a Lavender Compress to Alleviate Pain From Rheumatism

Brew a tea made from 1 tsp. dried lavender flowers and 1 cup of boiling water.

Pour the hot tea into a small bowl. Let it cool for a few minutes to avoid burning yourself.

Immerse a washcloth into the bowl of lavender tea. Wring out so it will not drip, and fold into a rectangle.

Put the warm compress on aching joints or muscles.

Ease Symptoms of Rheumatism With a Lavender Bath

Add up to 1/2 cup of dried lavender flowers to a warm bath.

Allow the flowers to soften in the bath water. They will start to release their delicate scent.

Get into the bath and relax. The lavender will cause you to relax and you may feel less joint pain.

How to Sculpt Arms in Yoga Plank Position

The yoga plank position helps to sculpt both the upper body and the arms. When practiced on a regular basis, the yoga plank position can sculpt and define the biceps and triceps. It also helps sculpt and tone the shoulders, chest, and core muscles. The yoga plank position is one of the most popular poses in the Sun Salutation and is a great strength workout. There are also challenging variations of the yoga plank position that can further increase arm and upper body strength.

Place your hands and knees on your yoga mat. Keep hands and feet parallel to each other. Move your body into a push-up pose. Keep your hips and shoulders level and do not raise your glutes higher than your shoulders. Think of your body as a plank, but don't stiffen your body.

Support your weight on your arms and distribute the weight evenly in your hands. Your palms should be facing forward on your mat.

Raise your right leg a few inches off the ground and hold for ten seconds. Place your right foot on your mat. Raise your left leg off the mat and hold for ten seconds. Return your left foot on the mat.

Move your ankles slightly back and then push forward a little with your arms. Feel the stretch and hold the pose for ten seconds. Return to plank pose and hold the pose for another ten seconds. Place your knees on the mat and rest before you begin another series of plank poses. Repeat 6 to 8 times. If you want to challenge yourself, practice plank pose at least 10 to 15 times.

Folate Treatment for Neuropathy

Folate, a B-vitamin, is an essential compound to support the proper function of both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. Folate deficiency is linked to a number of diseases and conditions relating to the brain, nerves, and spinal chord. People who are deficient in folate are more likely to suffer from stroke, depression, and dementia, and women with folate deficiencies are at high risk of giving birth to children with neural tube defects like spina bifida.
It should come as no surprise, then, that nutritionists and physicians are now examining the link between folate deficiency and neuropathy. Neuropathy describes a number of conditions of the peripheral nervous system, causing both motor and sensory symptoms. Pain and physical weakness caused by neuropathy can be profoundly disabling. Folate supplementation may help to eliminate a potential underlying cause of the condition.

B Vitamins and Neuropathy

It has been well-documented that many nutritional deficiencies--especially deficiencies in B-vitamins like folate--can cause neuropathy. People suffering from neuropathy are often deficient in thiamine (B1), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), and cyanocobalamin (B12). Because B-vitamins are so critical for the function of the nervous system, it is no surprise that poor nutrition can cause or worsen neuropathy.
Vitamin deficiencies can be caused by many different factors, and people suffering from neuropathy should be tested for potential underlying diseases. While a poor diet is the most common cause of B-vitamin deficiencies, they may also be caused by malabsorption due to alcoholism, inflammatory bowel disease, bariatric surgery, or other conditions.

Addressing Deficiencies

Anyone suffering from nutrition-related neuropathy can benefit from large doses of B-vitamins. These may be administered through injection, since the body often has difficulty absorbing B-vitamins through the digestive system. This is especially true for people suffering from malabsorption-related diseases and conditions.
Symptoms of folate deficiency are nearly identical to symptoms of deficiencies in vitamin B-12, it is best to be given a "cocktail" of the two vitamins to address both potential issues. This will also address the possibility that the neuropathy is caused by comorbid deficiency in both key nutrients, and it will enable better absorption and use of each vitamin.

Other Sources

Folate injections are not the only method for increasing the amount of folate in the bloodstream of patients with neuropathy. If the cause of folate deficiency is dietary, more of this critical vitamin can be obtained through eating large amounts of leafy, green vegetables like spinach, kale, collards, and turnip greens. Though this will not address deficiencies caused by malabsorption, it can combat neuropathy caused by poor diet.
Additionally, over-the-counter nutritional supplements are available containing respectable doses of folic acid. Due to the important role that folate plays in pregnancy, time-release prenatal vitamins contain large doses of folate and other B vitamins Sublingual folate tablets can be better alternatives for people who have trouble swallowing pills, or require the extra absorption offered by this method.

Potential Risks

Fortunately for people who are interested in using folate to treat neuropathy, there are few known side effects to taking very large doses of folate. Because it is a water-soluble vitamin, it can not concentrate in the body in toxic amounts. However, folate has the potential to mask symptoms of cyanocobalamin (B12) deficiency, which is often a comorbid condition, especially in people with neuropathy and malabsorption disorders.
B12 deficiency can cause neuropathy or worsen it, if it is not treated. For this reason, nutrition-based treatment for neuropathy generally involves supplementation with both B12 and folate. This will prevent the masking of either deficiency, and can also ensure that adequate levels of both nutrients are achieved.

There is no panacea of neuropathy. While folate treatment shows some promise in safely addressing some cases of neuropathy and other neurological disorders, it is not guaranteed to eliminate or improve symptoms of the disease. Depending on the underlying cause of neuropathy, the patient's individual biology, and the nature of treatment, folate may not be fully effective.
Folate treatment for neuropathy is still relatively rare, and it can not necessarily treat neuropathy caused by anything other than folate deficiency. However, since folate can help to strengthen and support the peripheral nervous system, and since the treatment protocol is associated with very few risks, most patients consider folate treatment to be worthwhile.

Essential Oil Recipes for Pain

Essential oils are wonderfully healing when used to treat pain such as muscle aches, strains, backaches and headaches. There are many simple, easy-to-make essential oil recipes you can create at home to combat the everyday stress of life and ease your aches and pains along the way. Keep some essential oils such as lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus on hand in case you need to mix up an essential oil recipe for pain. These are readily available at any health food store.

Headaches and Muscle Pain

To treat muscle pain, use the following essential oil recipe. Combine two drops of lavender essential oil with two drops of rosemary essential oil. Add these two essential oils to 4 teaspoons of massage oil such as sweet almond oil and blend together. Massage gently into the area affected by pain. For even more effective treatment, warm the oil for a few seconds in the microwave.

To ease and relieve headache pain, combine two drops of lavender essential oil with 1/2 teaspoon of massage oil such as sweet almond oil. Gently massage into the temples.

Sports Oil Rubs

If you participate in sports, often preventing muscle pain is just as important as alleviating pain after a muscle injury. Try this essential oil massage blend to rub into muscles before exercise: Combine one drop of lavender with one drop of eucalyptus essential oil. Add 4 teaspoons of any massage oil base, such as sweet almond oil, and blend together. Massage into muscles and joints prior to exercise.

For pain relief after sports or exercise, combine two drops of lavender with one drop of juniper and one drop of rosemary. Mix together and then add 4 teaspoons of your massage oil. Blend together well, then massage into sore muscles and achy joints.

General Aches and Pains

To treat general aches and pains, combine three drops of oregano essential oil with four drops of peppermint essential oil, two drops of cedarwood essential oil, and two drops of lavender essential oil. Add these essential oils to 1 tablespoon of almond oil and blend well. Massage into skin for relief.

To make an anti-inflammatory massage oil, combine three drops of German chamomile essential oil, five drops of frankincense essential oil, three drops of helichrysum and three drops of lavender essential oil. Blend together with 4 tablespoons of sweet almond oil. Apply to inflamed area several times a day and massage in gently.

Home Remedies to Get Rid of Wrinkles

After many years of smiling, frowning and squinting, your face is likely to be etched with permanent lines. While wrinkles cannot be entirely removed from your face once you have them, some home remedies can soothe the skin and lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Flax Seed Oil

Flax seed oil has compounds in it that help to moisturize the skin. Mix 1 tbsp. of flax seed oil into something you eat on a daily basis. Cooking destroys its healing properties, so use it straight from the bottle, and add it to salad dressing, pasta dishes or vegetables. Use fresh, cold-pressed oil that is refrigerated, and keep it in a dark glass bottle. Better-quality oil has a nutty flavor.

Homemade Mask

Make a homemade mask by using fruits that contain natural acids. Apples, strawberries and grapes are examples of fruits that contain acids that help to loosen the outer, dead layer of skin. Make your own mask by mixing together 1 tbsp. of mashed fruit with 1 tbsp. of whole wheat flour, 1 tbsp. of water, 1/2 tbsp. of cornmeal, and a few drops of jojoba or peanut oil. Massage the mask into just washed skin, and let dry for 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

Papaya is another fruit that contains strong acids that help to rejuvenate the skin. The acids in papaya are called proteolytic enzymes, which are compounds that break down protein. Typically this fruit is used as a digestive catalyst, but it can also help polish the skin by dissolving the skin's top layer. Grind up 2 tbsp. of washed and peeled papaya. Mix with 1 tbsp. of dry oatmeal and apply to the skin. Let dry for 10 minutes. Lightly scrub the mixture off with an upward, outward motion. The oatmeal will help to remove debris from the skin, while the papaya reveals a fresh, new layer of skin. Use this treatment every two weeks for optimal effect.

Witch Hazel and Lavender Toner

Make a soothing toner to tighten and refresh your skin. Add six drops of lavender essential oil to 4 oz. of witch hazel. Witch hazel contains high level of tannins, which help to tighten the skin and will lessen the appearance of fine wrinkles. Apply to the skin using your fingertips, gently massaging into problem areas.

How Cocoa Butter Helps Skin

Cocoa butter helps the skin in many ways. It lubricates and protects the skin and also helps to fade scars. It is a well-known folk remedy that has been used for decades. It is also a popular ingredient in skin care preparations. Cocoa butter is a natural product that is used in cooking so it is a safe to use on the skin. Cocoa butter is worth a try because it has a wonderful smell, is inexpensive and lasts for a long time.

Cocoa Butter and the Skin

The skin has three layers. Cocoa butter penetrates the top layer of the skin called the epidermis. The cocoa butter can also reach the dermis, the middle layer. Cocoa butter is made from the vegetable fat of the cocoa bean. It is very effective for lubricating dry skin. This natural moisturizer also softens the skin. Herbal Luxuries writes that "cocoa butter is an excellent emollient that is well absorbed by the skin. Its incredibly high content of vitamin E is responsible for its beneficial properties." Vitamin E is proven to help with skin renewal and repair. Cocoa butter is also an antioxidant. Antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals or toxins that damage tissues at the cellular level. The antioxidant property also provides a natural preservative so cocoa butter lasts for a long time. Cocoa butter is available in a few forms--creams, lotions and sticks.

Cocoa Butter and Scars

Cocoa butter is frequently recommended for eliminating stretch marks and other scars. Many people believe that cocoa butter has helped to reduce their scars. Even plastic surgeons have advised their patients to use cocoa butter on surgical scars. But there is no medical evidence that proves cocoa butter helps with scar tissue. A research study at the American University of Beirut Medical Center in Lebanon concluded, "Topical application of a lotion containing cocoa butter does not appear to reduce the likelihood of developing striae gravidarum (stretch marks.)" But there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that cocoa butter helps with scars. Many people see improvement in scars after applying the cocoa butter a few times each day. This natural product has a smooth texture so it is easy to apply and use.

Natures Cure for Peeling Skin

Peeling skin can be a painless or painful condition, depending upon the cause of the peeling skin and the severity of the condition. The skin peels for a variety of reasons. Different layers of the skin might be affected if the peeling results in serious infections and sore areas on the skin's surface. Peeling skin is also unattractive and can make you self-conscious about your appearance. Fortunately, there are all natural cures for peeling skin which can be implemented quickly.

Peeling Skin Causes

A primary cause of peeling of the skin is when a person gets sunburn after excessive sun exposure. Sunburn causes the epidermis, the first layer of skin, to burn and to blister. When the skin blisters, fluids accumulate underneath the skin during the natural healing process and the blistering eventually dries out underneath the small skin bubbles that form. The excess skin that remains begins to peel off over time.

Poor hydration can also cause your epidermis to peel; if you don't get enough water intake, your skin can dry out, crack and take on a scaly appearance. Later, the cracked skin will begin to peel and will appear unsightly. A lack of skin hydration can also occur if you do not use moisturizers on a regular basis: soaps contain lye which is drying to the skin and can later cause the skin to become itchy and dried out. The end result is that your skin begins to peel. Getting adequate water intake daily can reduce issues with peeling skin.

    Peeling Skin Syndrome

Sometimes hereditary conditions are the source for peeling skin. A condition identified as Peeling Skin Syndrome can be inherited: the condition results in constant and spontaneous peeling of the skin, itchiness and a reddening of the skin. Unlike other causes for peeling skin, this condition is ongoing. Peeling of the skin is significant in the regions of the feet and hands. The peeling of the skin when related to this condition is not associated with pain.

Peeling Skin Treatments

Cucumbers can be used to naturally treat peeling skin conditions. Cucumber can be ground up in a food processor or pressed in a juicer and applied to the skin topically to alleviate painful skin conditions. Cucumbers are excellent for peeling skin, dry skin and other skin conditions, because it leaves the skin feeling refreshed. Cucumbers can be used on a daily basis to maintain adequate skin moisture.

Mint is beneficial for treating skin conditions, including peeling skin. The plant offers a calming feeling. When made into an oil or used as a juice the herb helps to moisturize the skin and keeps it refreshed and rejuvenated. Mint has a pleasant scent and it serves as a splendid remedy for dry skin, dermatitis, and eczema. The juice or mint oil can be applied topically once every evening to diminish issues with peeling skin.

Aloe has long been revered as a natural remedy for burns and for rapid healing of sunburn. Aloe can be used directly from the plant; a part of the plant can be broken off and the gel substances can be directly applied to burned and peeling skin to promote healing. Aloe has antibacterial properties that encourage prompt healing and the gel can be applied to the body two to three times a day.

Home Remedies to Cure a Sinus Infection

Home Remedies to Cure a Sinus Infection

Sinus problems are not only painful, they can be distracting and tough to treat. The inflammation of the nasal passages and sinus cavities associated with sinus problems can become debilitating when it reaches the stage of infection. Very often people don't even realize an infection is involved because the symptoms can resemble a cold or the flu with an intense sinus headache. Some easy home remedies can help you deal with your sinus infection.

Nasal Irrigation

The first thing to do when you suspect you have sinus infection is to dilute 1/4 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water and then draw this solution into an ear bulb syringe. Gently place the bulb into your nose and squeeze while breathing into get the salt water up into the nasal passages where it can help clean away the mucus and decrease swelling. Inflammation in the nasal passageway creates nasal pressure that can lead to headaches and prolonged infection.

Ginger Compress

Another natural remedy for sinus infection includes ginger. Get yourself an actual root of the ginger plant and use a cheese grater to slice about 1/4 cup of the root. Add the ginger to a pint of boiling water. Let it simmer for 15 minutes and then strain the results. Dip a washcloth into the pot until it is nice and damp and then cover your face to help with the nasal drainage and hopefully, the end of your sinus problems.

A buildup of mucus is the primary contributing factor to the swelling and pain caused by a sinus infection. A solution made of 1 teaspoon of horseradish mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice has the miraculous power of reducing that mucus and helping the drainage process. You can eat this solution straight or mix it with rice or potatoes if you experience a burning sensation when eating it.

Grape Seed Extract

Grape seek extract contains very powerful antioxidant properties that can serve to reduce the inflammation of the sinus cavities and nasal passages. Take 50 milligrams of grape seed extract three times a day to speed up the process of healing when you have a sinus infection and to quickly reduce swelling and that lingering sinus headache.

No to be confused with acupuncture, this process does not require needles and can be done by yourself at any time. Press and massage the areas around the nose, playing special attention to the base of the nose where the nostrils flare outward and the areas of the cheek just below the eyes. Massaging these areas with a fair amount of pressure can help relieve pain and aid drainage.

Proper nutrition during a sinus infection involves more what you don't want to eat than what you do. Since sinus infections are all about the production of mucus and the drainage of same, avoid any kind of food or beverage that stimulates mucus production or inhibits drainage. This could include alcohol, milk, ice cream and foods high in sugar.

How to Naturally Relieve Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibromyalgia is characterized by chronic and widespread pain. Sadly, there are currently no cures for Fibromyalgia. However, some vitamins can be used to help relieve Fibromyalgia pain and its other symptoms, as well as to help improve the condition. Some patients with Fibromyalgia also have a vitamin deficiency which plays a role in their current condition.

Take 250 mg of Magnesium Glycinate or Magnesium Aspartate, three times per day. Magnesium works by helping cellular energy production and also helps to relax the nerves as well as the muscles.

Take around 250 mg (anywhere between 200 and 300 mg) of Coenzyme Q10 daily. Coenzyme Q10 helps to support cellular energy production and helps to relieve Fibromyalgia pain and symptoms.

Take 1 mg of Vitamin B12 daily. Not only does Vitamin B12 help with Fibromyalgia, many patients with Fibromyalgia are found to have a deficiency in Vitamin B12 which is a factor in their current condition.

Homeopathic Remedies for Blood Clots

If you are at risk for developing blood clots, then you may also be at risk for heart attack, aneurysm or stroke. A proactive approach to improving blood circulation and the integrity of your blood vessels and arteries is key to avoiding serious health complications. In addition to any necessary lifestyle and dietary adjustments, there are several homeopathic remedies for blood clots that may help.

Homeopathy Means Less Is More

Consider the potential benefits of Hamamelis (H. virginiana), otherwise known as witch hazel. This botanical is traditionally used in homeopathic form to treat varicose veins, in which blood clots sometimes develop. According to Douglas MacKay, author of a review of treatment options published in the April 2001 issue of Alternative Medicine Review, Hamamelis virginiana is one of the remedies for blood clots that enhance circulation and vascular tone, and "may prevent time-consuming, painful, and expensive complications of varicose veins and hemorrhoids." The PDR for Herbal Medicines suggests the homeopathic dosage for chronic vascular conditions is 5 drops or 10 globules, one to three times per day.

Improve your circulation with the homeopathic remedy Crataegus, known in the botanical kingdom as English hawthorn (C. laevigata). Sometimes abbreviated simply as Crat, homeopathic hawthorn preparations are used to dilate blood vessels, an action likely due to the presence of procyanidins, a class of polyphenols similar to those found in red wine. German researchers set out to measure the effectiveness of this substance compared to conventional treatments on patients with mild cardiac insufficiency. The results of this cohort study, which were published in the June 5, 2004, European Journal of Heart Failure, reported that this homeopathy remedy was as effective as conventional diuretics and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors in addressing all aspects of cardiac insufficiency with the exception of lowering blood pressure. The PDR for Herbal Medicines suggests the homeopathic dosage is 5 drops or 10 globules, one to three times per day.

Add Hypericum perforatum to your list of homeopathic remedies for blood clots. This botanical, commonly known as St. John's Wort, may already be familiar to you since it has been widely publicized as a natural treatment for mild depression. However, according to The PDR for Herbal Medicines, the homeopathic application of this herb is valued for deterring the formation of cerebral-vascular calcifications, which can promote blood clots. The PDR for Herbal Medicines suggests the homeopathic dosage is 5 drops or 10 globules, one to three times per day.

Be aware that it may take several weeks or months for you to see positive results when using homeopathic remedies.

Recognize that homeopathic remedies are not the same as herbal medicines. In fact, they are reduced many times from their naturally occurring state so that only the "essence" of the substance remains.

Understand that while homeopathic therapies are generally safe and do not produce side effects, it is important that you keep your health-care practitioner informed of any medicines you are taking.

Human Uses of Bees

Human Uses of Bees

Bees are a very important part of nature. Without bees there would not be healthy plants, and without them there would be no honey. Beekeeping is a hobby for some and a profession for others. Human uses of bees include many things, some of which we depend on for our health.

Honey is used as a sweetener for many consumables, including beverages and baked goods. Many chefs consider honey to be a good alternative to sugar in baking and cooking. It is made of both fructose (fruit sugar) and glucose (a simple sugar), and is considered a nutraceutical (a naturally made food which has many health benefits). Sugar is considered an empty calorie food and has little nutritional value. Honey, on the other hand, has many vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.

Honey is one of the few sweeteners which actually has nutritional value. Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and C are all found in honey, as well as many minerals such as zinc, iodine and copper. The amounts of nutrients vary depending on what types of pollen the bees used to make the honey.

Allergy Prevention and Help

Many people suffer from seasonal allergies. If honey from your area is consumed, it can actually help you find allergy relief or even prevent them altogether. Local honey is made by local bees which use the local pollen to make it. By eating local honey, you are taking in small amounts of what you are allergic to and building up your immunity to it.

Honey is used to help heal sore throats, stomach problems such as ulcers and diarrhea, and to help heal cuts. Honey is considered to act as an antifungal and an antibacterial. It can be used on the skin, hair, and even as a mouthwash. Honey can also be a good remedy for a hangover when taken with orange juice.

Beeswax is also gathered by beekeepers and sold to consumers. There are many uses for beeswax, including making beeswax candles, as a waxing agent in baskets, a coating agent in candies such as jelly beans, in solid soaps and lotion bars, to help heal the cracked hooves of animals, as the wax coating on dental floss, as a natural earwax removal, in ear candles and even to aid in oil spill cleanups.

How to Use Witch Hazel Around the Home

People have used witch hazel for many purposes over the years. The astringent extract of the herb is a low-cost alternative to commercial remedies for such things as acne, hemorrhoids and canker sores.

You can reduce what you pay for acne cleansers by simply soaking a cotton ball in witch hazel extract and rubbing it over your face one to two times a day. Its astringent effects will help relieve the swelling and inflammation caused by pimples.

If you suffer from swollen and painful varicose veins on your legs, you may get temporary relief and reduction in swelling by soaking a wash cloth in witch hazel and laying it over the affected areas. This is not a permanent solution, but it does help for a little while.

Applying witch hazel pads to hemorrhoids can help shrink their painful swelling.

Canker sores can range in size from a pin head to a quarter and can be found in the mouth and throat. When a person suffers from them, it is very difficult to find relief and over-the-counter solutions can be costly. Take some witch hazel and mix it 50/50 with water. Gargle with it a couple of times a day. The witch hazel will help heal the canker sores and also reduce swelling and tenderness.

About Skin Brushing & Body Detox

The body detoxifies through the skin, liver, kidneys and lymph glands. Daily skin brushing stimulates both the circulatory and the lymphatic systems, helping the body to detoxify.

The Body's Natural Detox Systems

The skin is the largest organ of the body. It eliminates toxins through perspiration. The skin's pores can become clogged, and then not be as efficient at eliminating toxins. The lymphatic system is quite complex, and includes the thymus, spleen, white blood cells called leukocytes, and lymph nodes. It collects bacteria and other harmful substances and removes it from the blood stream. Both these systems collect purge toxins from the body.

Dry brushing effects both the skin and lymphatic system by eliminating dead cells, improving circulation, and stimulating sebaceous and sweat glands. This rids the body of toxins. Dry skin brushing may even go one step further, and help regenerate skin cells. The practice also is thought to reduce or eliminate cellulite.

How to Skin Brush

Skin brushes have natural-fiber bristles, which may be too intense at first. Start with a natural-fiber brush glove or loofah until skin gets used to the sensation. Buy a brush with a handle so you'll be able to reach behind to your back. Brushing should be gentle, especially on sensitive areas, and always move circular motion toward your heart. Avoid brushing cuts and bruises. The practice should take about five minutes.

Going Through the Motions

Before getting into the shower, brush your skin, starting at the soles of your feet. Moving up toward the heart, brush your calves, then knees and thighs. Brush the abdomen in a circular motion to stimulate the intestines. Then brush your arms, starting at the palms, working your way to your chest and neck. Step into the shower, and rinse off dead skin cells.

Consult your physician before dry skin brushing skin. This step is especially important if you have cancer. Do not share your brush with other family members or friends. Sensitive areas such as your face should not be brushed. Keep the dry skin brush near the shower for easy access.

Oxygen Bar & Cataracts

Cataracts are a common eye condition that can cause poor eyesight or blindness. They often require surgery to be corrected. However, oxygen bar therapy may slow the process that causes cataracts.

Oxygen Bars

Oxygen bars offer a way for a client to inhale concentrated amounts of oxygen. Most often, oxygen bar therapy is offered in specialty oxygen bars, but there are also some portable oxygen bar products on the market. Oxygen bar proprietors claim that oxygen bar therapy offers a number of health benefits.

Cataracts usually form as a result of old age. As the body ages its natural functions begin to slow, and nutrients and oxygen are not delivered to the eyes as quickly or in the same quantity. As nutrients diminish, eye cells may begin die. These cells are then shed and can build up and cloud the eye, forming a cataract.

Preventing Cataracts

Although the Food and Drug Administration has not evaluated the use of oxygen bars, users and proprietors of oxygen bars claim that by using one, the risk of cataracts can be reduced. The idea is that, by delivering large amounts of oxygen, the aging process is slowed and the cells in eyes live longer. Therefore, fewer eye cells are shed, and there is less buildup in the eye, reducing the risk of cataracts.

Treating Cataracts

Although oxygen bar therapy may help slow or halt the growth of cataracts, it cannot reduce or dissolve cataracts that have already formed in the eye. The dead cells that cause age-related cataracts can generally only be removed with surgery.
